From the beginning of November until the end of January the area is buzzing with activity. In this period everything is Messinia is about the picking and the pressing of the olives.
Messinia is one of the counties of the Greek peninsula The Peloponnese. An area right in the middle of the best ecological system for growing olives. Not only worlds best olive oil is from the area, also the famous Kalamata olives find their origin in Messinia. The area is also famous for it's high quality honey.
The winters in Messinia are soft and the spring is pleasant. The nature in this time of year is very colorful. In the summertime temperatures reach 40 degrees. Messinia has a beautiful coastline which makes live in the summer very pleasant. In the beginning of September the first rains appear.
In contrast with most west-European countries, in this period nature blooms in abundance and it almost seems springtime. On the background one can find the mountaintops of Mount Taygetos.
In wintertime these mountaintops are snowy and the contrast with the fine climate gives many tourist a very special feeling. The waterfalls at Kazarma are also worth visiting in this period.
Messina has a rich variety of nature and offers the modern tourist everything for a pleasant stay. Above all however Messinia is the cradle of world's best olive oil.
